I bought two of these humidifiers for my children's rooms because the one I like best (also from Vick's) is not made any longer. They don't leak, they work well, and they make a great white noise to help mask other sounds. Like another reviewer, however, we have a terrible time trying to open the water tanks. I'm afraid I'm going to dislocate my thumb someday trying to get those things open. I would return them for this reason if I could.

Used this for 2 days and it didn't seem to "humidify" my kids room at all. I returned it and got a vaporizer that we used for a few years. That worked OK, but just recently started to piddle out on us. I recently burned myself on it trying lift out the heating element when it was still on thinking it was unplugged b/c it was not putting out any steam. It was in my 13 month old's room so that could have been dangerous. We just got the Warm Mist with Auto Shut off. That one is AMAZING! Best thing I've used so far. I definitely recommend the Warm Mist over this model or the Vaporizer.

I bought this unit while I was in college 5 years ago, and used it sporatically. My son is 2, and we've used it almost constantly for him, mostly for the noise and adding water when he is sick. I like the humidifier, and it has lasted a long time. The only downside to this is the filter. It needs to be replaced semi frequently. When I bought the first replacement, it was close to $10 (found cheaper on Amazon). Still, over the life of the humidifier, the filters cost more than the machine. I'm now looking for a new humidifier, one that doesn't require filters.
